Happy New Year!

Between apples and honey, fasting, and reflecting, it’s already been a busy 5786. I’m happy to say that this new year is even sweeter as we welcome to the world the newest litter born at the Israel Guide Dog Center right before the New Year.

The journey of these Labrador puppies started months before they were born when the breeding team at the Center thought soon-to-be parents Lore and Spot could create strong, healthy, and smart puppies. It’s a little bit science, a little bit of an art.

Lore and Spot, both Labrador Retrievers, are proud parents to a litter of 7 puppies. All the puppies are still at the Center’s Puppy House where they are being nursed by their mother and will soon begin puppy kindergarten.

In puppy kindergarten these newest members of the Center’s family will begin their education with exposure. They will be introduced to a variety of stimuli, including walking on different types of flooring and playing with all sorts of noisy toys, to get them comfortable with new situations.

In a few weeks, when they are weaned, the pups will go to live with volunteer puppy raisers in Israel. A year or so later, the litter will come back to the Center to be assessed for the career they are best suited for and start training to change someone’s life.

Happy New Year and Happy Birthday to our newest little heroes!
