Received Certificate of Gratitude from RMD
Nir Lion (30) a blind Israeli from Holon, completed a Red Magen
David (RMD) course last year. Yesterday, when his neighbour suffered
a heart attack, Nir applied resuscitation and massaged the heart
until the cardiac ambulance and staff arrived, thus saving the man's
life.
Nir, married and father of a baby, the masseur of Hapoel Holon Basketball
team, said "I had just entered the lift in order to reach my
apartment on the 2nd floor. Suddenly the neighbour from the 1st
floor told me, in a very frightend voice, that her neighbor, a vet
aged 60 was blue and breathing with great difficulty. I asked her
to take me to him. He was lying on the floor. I turned him over
onto his back, checked his pulse and found it to be extremely weak.
He wasn't breathing. I massaged his heart and gave him mouth-to-mouth
until cardiac arrived."
Both Shuki Gutman, spokesman of RMD and Rafi Malca the paramedic
who treated the patient, presented Nir yesterday with a first-aid
kit and certificate for Nir's initative. Rafi said: "It took
some time to believe Nir is really blind. He acted precisely according
to all the rules. Because of Nir's fast action, not only was the
patient's life saved, but he also did not suffer any brain damage".
